PNG DataCo Limited advises customers, partners and the general public that repair and service-continuity work remains in progress across multiple submarine and terrestrial cable incidents. Since the notice issued on 30 September 2026, additional work has been undertaken to complete restoration and to strengthen resilience while permanent repair preparations and works continue.

  1. Vanimo Submarine Cable Break

Repair planning and mobilisation are continuing for the confirmed subsea cable fault location serving Vanimo. Following cable-ship call-out, the vessel is now in Alotau loading the spares required for the restoration work and should set sale this week with the plan to be on repair site on 11th October 2026 to start repair work. At this stage, the repair is on schedule to be completed by 23rd October 2026 subject to vessel movements and prevailing sea and weather conditions.

Temporary satellite and other service-continuity arrangements remain in use to support affected services in West Sepik Province.

  1. PPC-1 Submarine Cable Break

The PPC-1 Madang–Sydney path remains unavailable and affected traffic continues to be carried through Port Moresby on KSCN and the Coral Sea Cable System to Sydney. PNG DataCo and Vocus are progressing the technical restoration plan, including assessment of repair options at the present landing point and an alternative landing arrangement in the Kina Beach area. Coordination is also continuing on whether the PPC-1 repair can be undertaken while the cable-repair vessel is deployed for the Vanimo cable repair.

As an immediate resilience measure, PNG DataCo completed activation of a second 100G wavelength on the Port Moresby–Madang KSCN System 2 Express Link on 4 October 2026. This increased available transmission capacity from 100G to 200G will support northern-region traffic and maintain PPC-1 rerouted traffic.

  1. Tari Terrestrial Fibre Cable Break

The Tari–Hagen terrestrial fibre fault, due to a major sabotage on our fibre optic cable route, was successfully restored at 10:30am on Friday 2nd October 2026. Services are restored and normalised thereafter.

  1. Australia–Singapore Cable (ASC) and Indigo west Cable Faults – International Service Degradation

The cable faults continue to affect international connectivity between Australia and Singapore. Traffic is being managed over alternative paths; however, customers accessing services and content hosted in Asia and Europe may continue to experience increased latency, degraded performance or intermittent accessibility. Based on the latest confirmed repair programme available to PNG DataCo, Indigo West restoration remains targeted for 24 October 2026 and ASC completion for 4 November 2026. These dates remain subject to permits, vessel movements, sea conditions and weather.

PNG DataCo apologises for the inconvenience caused and thanks customers, partners and the public for their patience and understanding. Our engineering, operations and field teams continue to work with domestic and international partners to maintain service availability, strengthen network resilience and complete permanent repairs as safely and quickly as practicable.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the outage, please don’t hesitate to contact our NOC team on +675 313 3936 or noc@pngdataco.com.
