  • PNG DataCo Limited (DataCo) was established in February 2014 as part of the PNG National Government’s plan to restructure and transform the Telecommunication Industry.
  • DataCo had been in operation since February 2014.
  • DataCo has been tasked with building the National Transmission Network (NTN) that will provide wholesale non-discriminatory telecommunications transmission services using existing Government owned assets through rationalization of existing wholesale assets and new capital works to extend the backbone network to the other provincial capitals.
  • DataCo now operates and manages over 2100 Km fibre optic network comprising of both terrestrial and submarine cables with three (3) international Pops and five (5) Internet Pops in country and fourteen (14) DWDM Pops in country across (10) provinces.


DataCo’s vision is to improve and expand affordable access to all people of PNG, through the development of the National Transmission Network (NTN).


DataCo’s mission is to develop the NTN as the efficient domestic and international telecommunication transmission network. DataCo will make the NTN available on a wholesale and non-discriminatory basis to all licensed industry operators to stimulate and foster social and economic development in PNG. DataCo will build the NTN using State Owned assets and new network investments.

The broad objectives of DataCo is to support the PNG Government Information and Communications Technology (ICT) policy objectives by building, owning and operating a national broadband transmission network and Point of Interconnect/Data Centers to facilitate, stimulate and foster social and economic development in PNG through increased availability at affordable prices of essential broadband communications services.

DataCo’s mandate is to Build the National Transmission Network (NTN) primarily on Fibre across Papua New Guinea with domestic Points of Presence (PoPs) in all provincial capitals and have multiple international connections to ensure a modern, robust and reliable backbone transmission Network that is offered on transparent and non-discriminatory basis.
